H.IAAC students receive awards at SBRC 2025 and CoUrb 2025

We congratulate master's students Gabriel Talasso and Gustavo Luz who were awarded with honorable mentions for their work presented respectively among the best articles in the main track of the 43rd Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC 2025) and in the IX Workshop on Urban Computing (CoUrb 2025).
SBRC is the main national scientific event in the areas of computer networks and distributed systems, bringing together researchers and professionals from Brazil and abroad every year to discuss high-impact innovations. The CoUrb Workshop is part of SBRC and allows for the discussion of work in the area of Urban Computing and collaboration between researchers from different areas. In the context of SBRC, CoUrb complements the discussions taking place in the main track of the event, with a focus on Urban Computing.
Gabriel Talasso’s paper, entitled “Efficient Fine-Tuning of Language Models to Detect Anomalies in Private Logs using Federated Learning” presents a proposal for detecting anomalies, malfunctions, and attacks in computer system logs by specializing and adapting language models efficiently and at a lower cost. Additionally, the paper explores the use of Federated Learning to promote the privacy of these sensitive data while enabling collaborative learning for anomaly detection. Gustavo Luz’s article, entitled “10 Years of Deep Learning for Vehicle Detection at a Smart Parking: What has Changed?” tells the story of research and development of smart parking at the Institute of Computing (IC) at UNICAMP, comparing the different approaches considered over the last 10 years, with an open source repository containing software and hardware instructions to replicate the system, including a benchmark of 13 different deep learning models.
