H.IAAC student receives award for Best Scientific Initiation Work in 2024

17 jun 2025

Gustavo Araújo Morais, a student in the Learning in Cognitive Architectures research line, was awarded the title of Best Scientific Initiation Work at the Institute of Computing in 2024. His study, A General Framework for Reinforcement Learning in Cognitive Architectures, developed under the guidance of Professor Esther Colombini, stood out for its innovation and relevance in the area and was published in the Special Edition of Reinforcement Learning of the journal Cognitive Systems Research (link).

The work deals with the development of a general framework for the application of reinforcement learning techniques in cognitive architectures. This is in line with the proposal of the research line of Learning in Cognitive Architectures, which aims to develop innovative learning techniques that combine the statistical methods of deep learning with the rich theoretical basis of cognitive science.

This is the second consecutive year that an H.IAAC student has won this award, reinforcing the impact and excellence of the research developed by the group.

We congratulate student Gustavo for his excellent work!
